The Scent of You

And I’m back in the room… I’ve been absent for months because I’ve been in a frenzied activity finishing my new book. Ta dah!

It was a more frenzied process than usual, because I accidentally also took a job for five months editing an interiors magazine, called Wealden Times, while the real editor finished her maternity leave, which was soooo fun. Just like putting on a pair of comfortable favourite shoes, I loved every minute of it.

When I finished there, I was a bit squeezed with my book edit, so I had to Jack Kerouac it, pulling a few all nighters, which actually suits my adrenaline-addicted newspaper reporter brain and I loved doing it.

So now The Scent of You is about to launch – March 27th, in Australia (working on other territories, with everything very tightly crossed). It’s the story of Polly Masterson-Mackay, a perfume blogger, who ‘thinks in perfume’, plus various nutters and one or two Very Hot Men…

You can find out more about Polly on Instagram, where she is @thescentofyou and on her blog – Fragrant Cloud. Link here:Fragrant Cloud blog

It would be so fun to get some comments on there!

    Dear Jayne,
Nice to know the long silence was not because something horrible had happened. Congratulations on your new book . I look forward to reading it. Your post was perfect timing for its release date in Australia. No book tour this time?

      March 15, 2017

Sorry! I wanted to, but every time I thought: oooh, I’ll do a quick blog post! Something happened and I had to go and deal with that and then it became a big THING that I hadn’t done one, which made it harder….. aaarrrrggh. So I’m back on the bus now, but mainly posting on Polly’s site for the time being. Thanks for staying loyal! M x

What a coincidence – I was thinking about you only 2 days ago. Was going through my emails & thought “where’s Maggie?” I went on line & googled you as I thought I may have dropped off your em list. So pleased you’re back & I am really looking forward to reading your new book. PS Are you doing a book tour to Australia.?

      March 15, 2017

HI Christine – sorry about going into a hole. It’s just once I’m writing a book it’s very hard to do anything else. Changing clothes is a challenge. Regarding the book tour – I’m not doing one for the launch, but I’m scheming to come over later in the year.

Hi Maggie, 128 pages in, on my iPad. What an utterly marvellous read! If Jane Austen was alive, this is what she’d write. I’m sure I’ve read that somewhere, but it does certainly apply to you.

There is so much in this book that resonates with me. As ever. Xx

Hi Maggie. I bought your book and I can’t put it down and not only because I have had a bout of food poisoning! It’s great! Sadly there are LOTS of typos and errors. I thought you may not know because you probably don’t read your own books- haha. Anyway, if it goes for a reprint you may want to look into that. Cheers from a long-time reader in Melbourne.

      Hi Michelle,
Just chiming in here – I’m Maggie’s publisher in Australia and if there are any errors I would love to know so I can correct them. Please do email me at and let me know where they were. We do careful proofreads but sadly the human eye can’t always catch everything so eagle-eyed readers are a great help.
      Many thanks,

    Hi Maggie,

I love your book! It’s funny and witty, and i can somewhat relate to some of the topics that are highlighted in the book. I have just started my own blogger journey and i am a Jo Malone fan. I can relate to some of the scents that are mentioned within the book, as luck would have it, your choice of scents to describe a daughter are bang on. I own some of them and use them just about each day. I can’t thank you enough for using the blogger as the main heroine within the book and writing such a ‘scented novel’. I can’t put it down!

Also, I love the smell of new books, so that somewhat added a olfactory experience for me whilst reading the book.

I loved the book, it is heaps of fun!
And, suddenly after avoiding scent counters for years, I am very interested in perfumes. Pretty soon I’ll start testing them, then maybe buying them.
    Best wishes and thank you

Hello Maggie – Not relevant to this blog but I don’t Tweet nor Instagram nor Facebook. I must tell you about a cream which I have been using for my Rosacea. It’s fairly new and it’s working. I have battled Rosacea for 25 years, trying everything from creams to diets to medication (Doxy). This new cream is commonly called Soolantra but the active ingredient is Ivermectin. You will need a script and it’s about A$52. It reduces the redness and swelling dramatically over about 2 weeks and keeps working until your skin just have a light pink tinge. I really hope you read this and more importantly, that it works for you. Kind regards Leaine

    Hi Maggie,
Have just finished The Scent of You. What a beautiful read. I loved the fact that Mitsouko featured throughout – it’s been My Scent for over 30 years. Not so easy to purchase off the shelf in Sydney now … I thought for one horrible moment they may be phasing it out but with its centenary coming up I doubt that. Maybe there will be a special special.
    All the best, Leona

    Hi Maggie.
We have a son 22 years. Major issues with intrusive thoughts, obsessive that comes out negatively towards all his family. Had to have him admitted twice to hospital – the last time was 2 weeks ago.
His grandmother has just finishing read your book and said what you described in your book, to her, is exactly what she sees happening in her grandson.
I was looking to see if there is some psychology materials that i could research on the condition of the character in your book. Maybe you have some materials, some links – anything you can share or point us to we would be super grateful. if you can, great and if you can’t no problem.
    Thank you
