7 Days of Positive: Day 144 – Moving towards talking about Mr Bowie

It has been so good to read all the comments about David Bowie on here. One of the only comforts I’ve found from his death has been the bringing together of people who feel about him as I do.

Everybody’s story of discovering him is different – and from every decade from the 1960s to right now (my daughter)- but we all end up in the same place. Awestruck and convinced he is a person like no other.

When the news came I’d been playing Black Star obsessively since it came out just before and I went online and ordered some school lapel star badges in black enamel. I gave them to friends who I knew felt about Bowie as I do. We are the order of the Black Star.

You’re all in it.

I will write more about him, but for now, this picture at the top there is my favourite of him. It says it all to me. The beauty, the otherness.

I'm a black star

I’m a black star

It still causes me to sharply intake my breath when I think of his death.

His music saved lives, it did mine. I’m a black star.

I am still recovering from the shock of Mr Bowies passing, after visiting the V&A collection at ACMI MELBOURNE AUSTRALIA last year my admiration and love for him was like new, I felt like a 70’s teenager again with all the future possibilities that go with that age. I am struggling to listen to his music – eased my way back today with station to station. Thank you Maggie for letting me ramble on. Xxx .

    1. Thank God you are back.

    2. I was so upset by his death. His music was the soundtrack of my life.

    3. On a Sunday morning I saw that movie Carol at the cinema and decided to walk home ( because I will not pay for parking and had been dropped there by the Mister) and I was listening to Rebel Rebel and Modern Love and Blue Jean and Young Americans and Fame on repeat and I felt Happy Sad if that makes sense.

    4. It’s hard to explain his Glamour and sense of currency to the Younger Players.

Happy Sad is perfect. I feel like that about it every time I play his music (and don’t tell anyone, but I haven’t played anything else since he died…). The amazing thing I’ve found is how many young ones DO get it. Peggy totally does. I took her to the exhibition and she came out in an awe which still hasn’t left. xxxx (I’ve only seen the trailer of Carol – is it as good as it looks? I was mad about the MAKE UP).

For our annual Easter pilgrimage to Bell’s Beach surfing comp, Chloe was as ever in charge of the music. Top of the list this year: Rebel Rebel. A proud Mum.

One of my treasured possessions is a grainy photo of the back of Mr Bowie: blonde pompadour and sharp suit. Serious Moonlight tour, 1984. I snapped it whilst getting off the plane at Heathrow, having spent 24 glorious hours knowing that we were breathing the same lovely plane air. You had to be there…

Wow – just had a flashback as a 12 year old being taken to see the Serious Moonlight tour at Sydney Showground. I was sent by my parents to accompany my older sister and her friends so that she wouldn’t have too much of a good time! We had a ball and danced the whole time. I remember that sharp suit so well and I felt so grown up.

I’m so glad I got to see him.

Oh Jane, you were on a plane with him for 24 hours? Did you realize just at the very end that he was on the flight? Amazing. All things were possible with Bowie. BX

Dear Maggie. I have gotten through 2 only plays of I can’t give everything away on BBC6 without tears so far; what an impact his death has had on so many. All things were possible with the wonderful David Bowie. Bx

As a fellow member of the order of the black star I can only concur, Maggie. I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to put into words what Bowie meant to me but if anyone can do it, it will be you….”yes, he was alright, and the song went on forever”…

great post!!I have tried loads of natural creams as well, but the only thing that really works for meis coconut oil and liquid vitamin E oil from Solgar. Inre!diblecI have had quite a bad skin and since I started using noni juice on my face (after cleasing my face with Avene thermale water) it incredibly improved (tip from Miranda kerr in her new book).

Look at you and your times!! Sheesh girl, you are amazing! You seriously make me look at running as a fun sport instead of a task. I’m starting to like it more and more. It gets tough through the training program I’m on for the 1/2 but as I cross off each run I feel so great! Yay for you and your awesome run!

After all, The Broad School just doesn't have a very PC ring to it and might raise questions about the goals of the school.A feminist school for hippy (not hippie) girls?
